Here's a very simple equation: Summer = more bikes on the road.
And, as an unfortunate corollary to the above, more Bikes = more bike theft
I see this every year when Spring rolls around - the number of SBR registries jumps from 5 or 6 a day to 15+, simply because the weather gets better and people are headed outdoors again.
This summer people are all over bikes again for the first time in a long time, mostly due to high gas prices. And there has been an unfortunate uptick in thefts as well.
So thank you to Jessica Van Sack @ the The Boston Herald, who gave the SBR a nice mention in their "Stolen Rides Rarely Returned To Owners", a companion piece to their "Boston Bike Thieves In High Gear" (see what they did there?) It's nice to have some press help get the word out, because we're still nailing recoveries here and there.
We're nowhere near as hardcore as this guy is when it comes to recoveries, but we're happy with out return rate :)
