Two recent recovery stories

Just sharing two recent recovery stories:

On Saturday, my brother was going to local pawn shops ... and I was just tagging along for the ride.  As we passed by a TREK mountain bike that was the same color as my stolen bike, my brother lifted up the $500 price tag, and said shaking his head, "Dang bro, it really sucks what happen to your bike. Look, $500 bucks for this bike and yours was ten times better." ... then stopped, did a double-take at behind the counter, and just froze with his mouth wide open. I stood there for a moment dumbfounded, and then blurted out, "HEY, THAT'S MY BIKE!" ... turned the bike over and looked at the serial number and all the nicks and scratches that made my bike truly mine, and sure enough, it was it.
The pawn owners didn't doubt my claim, and were really great. They helped me contact the police, fill out the reports and get the bike back. What made it even better was that the pawn shop also had on record the thief's name, address, and thumb print.

Story number two, a local recovery from the BikePortland.org listings:
I was contacted by a guy who claims he bought it from someone on CL for 850, which is more than I paid for it originally because it's a year old model.  I called the cops and filed a theft report the day it was stolen and then made a post on your site.  The guy contacted me thru the post on your site.  I met him last night in the ****** parking lot and my buddy who works there [a whole bunch of detail redacted for privacy]  So the running theory is he's the one that stole it and instead of trying to hawk it on CL and get caught after he saw that I had the registration from the post on your site and filed a police report didn't want to risk selling such a flashy bike and having it traced back to him. ...it was a really weird experience, but I'm really thankful to have my ride back.
